What is Content Marketing?

The Content Marketing Institute says that content marketers offer a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly-defined audience. Content marketers basically create content so that you can eventually sell a product.

Most of the time, if you write blogs for companies, you are a content marketer. Most writers have to do at least some, if not a lot, of content marketing.

Content writing is interesting and sometimes stressful so keeping track of multiple projects and clients can be exhausting. Since freelancers value their reputation, hitting deadlines is vital. I found some software that you can use to make your business a bit more simple.

Project Management Apps

Trello

Trello is a collaboration tool that organizes your work into boards. If you’ve ever seen a photo of someone using a big whiteboard filled with sticky notes that they move from place to place once the task is done, you know the basis for Trello. I use Trello for several clients, and everyone has their own board. I can see what’s going on and who added new content or comments. I’m  sure I don’t use nearly all of the capabilities for Trello, but it’s still very valuable. Trello starts with a free version but you can also get a paid version with more options.

Asana

Asana is a project management software that allows teams to collaborate without using email. It allows you to break down goals into tasks and assign them to team members.

Asana has a free version with paid versions offering more options

Toggl

Toggl is easy to use time tracking software that can be used to analyze productivity.

There is a basic free version that doesn't have analytics, and there are a couple of paid versions that allow you to analyze your employees or subcontractors work.

Accounting Apps

Fresh Books

Fresh Books is accounting software that allows you to send invoices, plus keep track of expenses, income, and projects.

Dubsado

Dubsado is a CRM (client relationship manager) and accounting software. So you can send questionnaires to your clients, invoice them, and then keep track of your expenses and income. Dublado also can be used to integrate calendars, and send and sign contracts, making it an all around good software for entrepreneurs.

Paypal

Paypal is a must for most entrepreneurs. It's the most used site for sending money back and forth. They guarantee their site is secure, which provides peace of mind when you are using your credit card online. Paypal is free to use, but business owners will pay a transaction fee of 2.9% plus $.30. The business version allows you to send invoices to clients.

Other Web Based Applications

Dropbox

Dropbox allows you to share, sync, and folders in a cloud. It's simple to share documents with clients using Dropbox.

There is monthly pricing available for Dropbox users starting at $17.50/month.

Google Docs/Sheets/Slides/Forms

Google Docs is one of the easiest ways to share files, spreadsheets, slides, and forms with clients and teammates. It’s basically the Microsoft Office products without the cost and available in the cloud. You can work offline with the Google products, and you can share them with clients or teammates, who can all edit the documents.

Just because your content marketing business is solo doesn't mean you don't work with other people. Manage your projects, invoices, and time by utilizing some of these apps.
